In his recent article, GPS World's Eric Gakstatter presents a summary of the FCC's Narrowbanding requirement, with which users must comply by January 1, 2013. In effect, the FCC is "trying to fit more cars on a highway by splitting lanes in two. The
problem with this, from a user standpoint, is that some vehicles won’t
fit in the new, narrower lanes and therefore aren’t legal to use any
longer."
Noting that the FCC's compliance deadline has already passed, if you're reading this and haven't updated your GPS base radio yet, you'd best get with it! Eric also presents information on other topics, including the issue with LightSquared, the EU's Galileo satellite project, and UAV's. Read his full article here.
